How to Use the Revised Korean Food Exchange Lists for Meal Plans
Ju Dal-Lae

Abstract
With recent changes in the food marketplace and the eating patterns of Koreans, the food exchange lists were revised and the relevant guide book for diabetes educators was published by the Korean Diabetes Association in 2010. Food exchange lists for diabetes used to help people with diabetes plan meals. Food exchange lists provide a set of food values for estimating nutrients and energy for meal plans for people with diabetes, a short method for calculating the diet, and several lists of foods of similar values. A number of food items were added in recently revised food exchange lists. The guide book introduces specific amounts of foods from each food group at different calorie levels by types of diabetes and informs how to apply food exchange lists for individualized meal planning. This article introduces how to use the revised food exchange lists for meal planning, based on the book, "Korean food exchange lists for diabetes, 3rd ed.," and also shows the examples of meal plans for diabetes.
